Building Online With Integrity

When people talk about building a business online, the conversation often revolves around tactics.

Funnels.
Automation.
Lead generation.
Conversion rates.

Those things matter.

But after more than two decades in the network marketing and online marketing space, I’ve come to believe that something matters even more than tactics.

Integrity.

And truthfully, this is a lesson I didn’t arrive at overnight.

It took experience — and a few hard realizations — to understand what kind of business I truly wanted to build.

My First Exposure to Online Network Marketing Business

Back in 2005, I was involved in a traditional network marketing company called DXN. It was more of a classic direct-selling environment, and after some time I began looking for something that could be built more effectively online.

That search led me to another company called Juvio.

Juvio introduced me to something that felt revolutionary at the time: an online marketing system called Mach90. For someone new to internet marketing, it looked incredibly exciting.

The system promised automated lead generation and rapid team growth. It used email marketing and a structure called a “powerline,” where new prospects were encouraged to upgrade quickly before others ahead of them did.

The idea was simple: upgrade fast or miss the opportunity.

At first, I was impressed. Like many people encountering online marketing for the first time, I felt inspired by the possibilities.

But over time, something began to bother me.

When Excitement Turns Into Realization

The Mach90 system generated attention, but it also generated complaints.

Many prospects felt pressured by the marketing messages. The emails often relied on urgency and fear of missing out. People were encouraged to upgrade quickly because of the powerline structure.

But when someone upgraded expecting commissions, they would later discover there were still additional requirements — including recruiting others — before earning income.

For many people, that created disappointment.

At first, I didn’t fully understand the implications. I was simply excited about learning online marketing.

But eventually, I had to ask myself an uncomfortable question:

Is this the kind of business I want to build?

That moment became a turning point.

Some of the most important lessons I’ve learned from more than two decades in this industry are explained in What 20+ Years in Network Marketing Taught Me.

Studying Real Online Marketing

ethical network marketing and integrity principles for building an online business

Instead of quitting the online space altogether, I decided to study it properly.

I began learning real digital marketing principles.

Attraction marketing.
Value-driven communication.
Building trust before asking for business.

One influence that helped shape my thinking was the work of Mike Dillard, particularly his teachings in Magnetic Sponsoring. The core idea was simple but powerful:

Stop chasing people.
Start attracting them.

That philosophy resonated deeply with me.

It showed that online marketing could be done in a way that was both effective and respectful.

And if you’re completely new to this industry, you may want to begin with my guide, If You’re New to Network Marketing, Start Here.

A Journey Through Many Platforms

Over the years, my journey in the online business world continued to evolve.

I explored both affiliate marketing and network marketing models. Along the way, I worked with several platforms and companies, including:

  • SFI

  • Organo Gold

  • Wealthy Affiliate

Each experience added something to my understanding of online entrepreneurship.

More recently, I was introduced to tools like Systeme.io, which made it possible to build websites and marketing systems more efficiently.

Eventually, my journey also brought me into newer network marketing environments, including LiveGood, GreatLife Worldwide, and most recently Anovite.

Of all the companies I’ve encountered over the years, Anovite currently stands out to me as one of the most ideal structures I’ve seen in this industry.

Why I say that is something I’ll explain more in a future article.

The Principle That Guides Me Today

All of those experiences — both good and challenging — helped clarify something important.

I don’t want to build a business based on hype.

I don’t want to pressure people into decisions they don’t fully understand.

And I certainly don’t want to rely on fear-driven marketing.

Instead, I believe in a simpler model.

Share value.
Build trust.
Attract people who resonate with the vision.

When people understand what you’re doing and choose to move forward willingly, the relationships you build are stronger and more sustainable.

I’ve also learned that building a business sustainably requires caring for the person building it. That’s why I wrote about how Wellness Is the Foundation of Freedom.

Integrity Builds Slower — But It Lasts Longer

The internet makes it easy to chase quick wins.

But quick wins often create short-lived businesses.

Integrity may grow slower, but it creates something far more valuable: trust.

And trust is the real currency of long-term entrepreneurship.

For me, that means building in a way that honors both people and principles.

Because in the end, success that compromises your conscience is not success at all.
